Icarus

When you put a finger to me I light up like a match.  Soaring up toward the Skies With my wings of wax.  You say you're flying with me- That you're right by my side.  But your wings are of iron, You're not on the same ride.  It's heaven, it is, I don't deny, Yet it singes just a little.  There's a little guilt as I fly alone Into that lonely hell. How can I take you with me? What's the magic spell? It's not fatal, these wings of wax, There's more joy than I can tell.  Let's melt your iron wings, I can't wait till they rust. Come fly with me into the Sun, If in me you trust.

Circle of Hate

you'd think that by now, all this would be over. that we'd be color blind, and to our fellow human, kind! you'd think, by now we'd realize  that hatred and violence never solved  a single problem, just brought more strife.  but no. all the old wounds, all the pain and prejudice of yester years are once more bare and open, festering, once more we fight the same wars.  history's a circle what goes around comes around  today's your day, comes tomorrow, who knows what may? break the circle of pain walk in the shoes of your forefather's brother, but also those of his enemy and other. for until you look in the mirror and see that your opposite is just you, wirh your world upside down how will we ever grow? and as fhe generations pass how will we take a single step of progress and not return to the same place?

Of Silent Wars

They came creeping  Night after night  Sowing mines in the earth I'd made just so For my rose garden.  Nothing I can do.  I'd rather live in denial. Now my perfect rose garden Won't be just so. But I look everyday, Watering just a tad gingerly.  Still strewing the seeds that  I believe will be roses.  What if weeds come up, With monstrous claw-like roots? Mines do that too, not just kill, With their radiation.  Is it then ok if roses grow, With the deadly mines underneath? We could never take a walk But only watch from afar  Longing for our rose garden.  If I could tell you,  What would you do? Step around them gingerly? Uproot them at once? Is either a solution Or just one more mine I'm sowing?

I Quit

The sky’s a different blue today The city wears the colours of rain. But my work-sodden eyes see nothing, Just the numbers clicking through my brain.  It’s been a while since I’ve really seen. My routines are set in stone, My world’s just my cubicle, And I abhor my phone’s ringtone.  Even the last trip I took I saw through my camera’s lens, Because if it’s not on Instagram I’m not part of the latest trends! Not anymore. I can’t live like this, With Facebook as my world window - Clicking through in secret envy Like an embarrassing shadow.  I’m going to reclaim my life (And ditch my email connections!) See the world face to face With just a bag full of possessions.  I’ll live the simple life, Filled with old-school romance. Thank you, ordinary rainy day, For splashing me out of my trance.

Paper Cut

It's just a paper cut, you say, But I know how those hurt And also that I make you turn 200 pages a day. How many times can you smile Through that sharp pain? If I don't stop this right away My apologies are in vain. Baby, I feel so criminal When you react each time with love. My past's checkered, I'm a fugitive, I'm trying to rise above. Today I choose, I decide, Who wins or loses this fight That rages inside me when I feel fear. I'm going to give you respite. From now on, I will think again Before I think worst of you, In my moments of sense, I realise That men like you are few.

The First of Many

All too soon, a year has passed- That's three hundred and sixty five Days of love and laughter, Days I've felt alive. I still remember that evening, That very first butterfly, At the first chivalrous hello  From a dashing, sexy guy. All those miles between us Disappear once every second- With every word we text You were right here, I reckoned.  The plans we make, the trips we take, The secret code we speak- You know just what to say and do To make this girl's knees weak.  Won't you stick around for 50 more? Let's make each one as grand! Can't wait to share them all with you, My sweet to-be husband.

Nirvana Together

Nirvana, nirvana. We went in search of it.  Forging our solitary paths In search of the Only Peace. You in the blazing deserts, Overturning every grain of sand, In search of ultimate knowledge, For to know, to learn, is to be. I upon frozen mountains, Looking for the lost spark, Knowing it may never come, Tolerance is the way I see. And then we met, we became Fire and Ice, Yin and Yang, Changing the way we See, That's Nirvana to me.

Of Idols and Shields

I'm so glad you aren't One of those superhuman Stone idols with feet of stone.  They are perfect, it is true, With their chiseled ideals And strong arms that protect one From the outside world.  But what if the mistake's mine? A clash against those rigid arms Right though they may be, Will only cause  Pain to me and cracks to you.  No, I'm glad you are, my idol, Not of stone through and through.  Your inner softness is so pure, It's the very thing That draws me to you. Now I know I'm safe. Your arms will defend me Against the cruel world. Yet I'm of use too, To protect your softer self. You defend me and I you - A perfect shield we'll be.

SERENDIPITY

Soon  there won't be words to describe Every feeling I feel when you make me smile.  Reaching deep down, today, I make Efforts to pen down my blissful state.  Now I know how true love fares - when Distance tries to hide the way we care.  I see we grow from strength to strength.  People like us, we're meant to be.  I've said this before, I'll say it again - To me you're much more than a Valentine: You're the love of my life, my peace, my joy.

Today

Strange! Lived my whole life  Without you. Now a day seems An eternity.

Butterfly

One last wing flutter, Butterfly stuck in syrup is finally free.

Constant Cloud

It's not new It was always there This little cloud above us Of amor, of attraction. The sun of self doubt Tried to dry it out. The winds of the past Tried to sweep it away. Stubborn little cloud, It stuck quite fast - Building and growing On the heat waves below. Precipitation, Cloud dissolution- Is a constant worry. But don't fret, says Science. This is a system, Not a lone cloud. Where some condense More will build. All that matters Is that you keep alive The flame from below Of conversation & connection.

Cinderella Story

The music tonight Is a different tune. No more mournful dirges, Only happy tinkly sounds. Cinderella, you've always Danced at these balls With an eye on the clock- Run when midnight falls! Pumpkin carriage and mouse-horses Don't make for fast getaways- Running too hard won't work Cut glass sure impedes pace. Tonight, Cinderella, let go a little. Soak in the music, forget the time. Dance with Prince Charming, Laugh, talk, wine, dine. So stay, Cinderella. No more need you worry. The magic won't end anytime soon, You needn't run home in a hurry.

Fallen Angel

Have you seen a fallen Angel? Nothing can compare. It's a shell - the opposite Of its ethereal former glory. Twisted, wasted, slow: A recluse dragging itself Through its Punishment Of an existence. Suddenly a spark Ignites its wooden mind, Slowly catches ready tinder With a glowing flame. And then, all at once, Its body flaring ablaze, Hurtles through the sky With unexpected grace. All you can see is Beauty As it travels its fiery path, Can you see the burning shell Reveal the Angel within? Dancing, twirling, Behold its joy As it transforms Once more and sings: A thousand times I will take this, A thousand times this pain, This Fire is a blessing- It makes me whole again.

New Dawn

Tread gently through my woods, Or tread here not at all. Gentle seeds lie rooted here, Along twisted oaks of the past. Your passing through may cause, I fear, More damage than its cost. Yesterday Man was here With chainsaw, lathe and axe He felled a mighty oak like so And vanished without a tear. Years of labour, love and rain Destroyed in a single blow. The loss of years' of joy and trust Can you name an equal pain? Now I tend ferns, hardy and light That nothing can uproot After the wildest stormy fight They'll spring up underfoot. Yet oaks are my woods' delight Standing tall and firm and wise Bearing the scars of stormy years With nary a single reprise. So tread softly in my woods, if you will, Or tread here not at all. My oaks are watching, scared and still, And tremble at your footfall.

Inner Silence

Like wood soaked in brine, The heart no longer makes Verse or even sense.

Moonflower

Beautiful fair lass, Shrinking away from the light - Like a moonflower.

Guilty Conscience

Cannot stomach secrets- They just make me sick. Dirty thoughts and actions That no one else can bear. Yet you keep feeding me more Of that which I cannot digest. How much more can I take Before my dam bursts ? Can you tell the world Your every action And hold your head high Against each reaction? Adolescent crimes With late repentance. Never ending guilt For their misplaced confidence. Unshared emotions feel so alone- No, not even with you. Some opinions, feelings and actions Will go silently into my grave.

Summer Afternoon - Haiku

Bright sun at midday - Charring skin and earth alike Praying for water.

A White Rose

Image
A love like ours is a solid ball, pitching back and forth between two kids that don't really know the game. Perfectly spherical at first, shiny, smooth, but also slippery. Each time we dropped it, it chipped a little bit off- a sharp pointy edge to remind us of its fall. Now its not smooth any more A mass of jagged corners That cuts us with each pass. We can only wish for those days When each throw was a joy. I dropped the ball, More times than I can count. You're the better player, but You've slipped up too. Oh no, here it comes- My hands are already bleeding. I can see your blood on the edge And that makes me feel worse. I wonder if you hate the game now? "Do you want to stop playing ? I'll play as long as you want to." Each one waits for the other to say "enough". But don't you wish for that new ball that once was? I wish I'd played better. I hate when my mistakes Cause your hands to bleed. ...
