Icarus

When you put a finger to me I light up like a match.  Soaring up toward the Skies With my wings of wax.  You say you're flying with me- That you're right by my side.  But your wings are of iron, You're not on the same ride.  It's heaven, it is, I don't deny, Yet it singes just a little.  There's a little guilt as I fly alone Into that lonely hell. How can I take you with me? What's the magic spell? It's not fatal, these wings of wax, There's more joy than I can tell.  Let's melt your iron wings, I can't wait till they rust. Come fly with me into the Sun, If in me you trust.

Circle of Hate

you'd think that by now, all this would be over. that we'd be color blind, and to our fellow human, kind! you'd think, by now we'd realize  that hatred and violence never solved  a single problem, just brought more strife.  but no. all the old wounds, all the pain and prejudice of yester years are once more bare and open, festering, once more we fight the same wars.  history's a circle what goes around comes around  today's your day, comes tomorrow, who knows what may? break the circle of pain walk in the shoes of your forefather's brother, but also those of his enemy and other. for until you look in the mirror and see that your opposite is just you, wirh your world upside down how will we ever grow? and as fhe generations pass how will we take a single step of progress and not return to the same place?

Of Silent Wars

They came creeping  Night after night  Sowing mines in the earth I'd made just so For my rose garden.  Nothing I can do.  I'd rather live in denial. Now my perfect rose garden Won't be just so. But I look everyday, Watering just a tad gingerly.  Still strewing the seeds that  I believe will be roses.  What if weeds come up, With monstrous claw-like roots? Mines do that too, not just kill, With their radiation.  Is it then ok if roses grow, With the deadly mines underneath? We could never take a walk But only watch from afar  Longing for our rose garden.  If I could tell you,  What would you do? Step around them gingerly? Uproot them at once? Is either a solution Or just one more mine I'm sowing?

I Quit

The sky’s a different blue today The city wears the colours of rain. But my work-sodden eyes see nothing, Just the numbers clicking through my brain.  It’s been a while since I’ve really seen. My routines are set in stone, My world’s just my cubicle, And I abhor my phone’s ringtone.  Even the last trip I took I saw through my camera’s lens, Because if it’s not on Instagram I’m not part of the latest trends! Not anymore. I can’t live like this, With Facebook as my world window - Clicking through in secret envy Like an embarrassing shadow.  I’m going to reclaim my life (And ditch my email connections!) See the world face to face With just a bag full of possessions.  I’ll live the simple life, Filled with old-school romance. Thank you, ordinary rainy day, For splashing me out of my trance.

Paper Cut

It's just a paper cut, you say, But I know how those hurt And also that I make you turn 200 pages a day. How many times can you smile Through that sharp pain? If I don't stop this right away My apologies are in vain. Baby, I feel so criminal When you react each time with love. My past's checkered, I'm a fugitive, I'm trying to rise above. Today I choose, I decide, Who wins or loses this fight That rages inside me when I feel fear. I'm going to give you respite. From now on, I will think again Before I think worst of you, In my moments of sense, I realise That men like you are few.

The First of Many

All too soon, a year has passed- That's three hundred and sixty five Days of love and laughter, Days I've felt alive. I still remember that evening, That very first butterfly, At the first chivalrous hello  From a dashing, sexy guy. All those miles between us Disappear once every second- With every word we text You were right here, I reckoned.  The plans we make, the trips we take, The secret code we speak- You know just what to say and do To make this girl's knees weak.  Won't you stick around for 50 more? Let's make each one as grand! Can't wait to share them all with you, My sweet to-be husband.

Nirvana Together

Nirvana, nirvana. We went in search of it.  Forging our solitary paths In search of the Only Peace. You in the blazing deserts, Overturning every grain of sand, In search of ultimate knowledge, For to know, to learn, is to be. I upon frozen mountains, Looking for the lost spark, Knowing it may never come, Tolerance is the way I see. And then we met, we became Fire and Ice, Yin and Yang, Changing the way we See, That's Nirvana to me.
