I Quit
The sky’s a different blue today
The city wears the colours of rain.
But my work-sodden eyes see nothing,
Just the numbers clicking through my brain.
It’s been a while since I’ve really seen.
My routines are set in stone,
My world’s just my cubicle,
And I abhor my phone’s ringtone.
Even the last trip I took
I saw through my camera’s lens,
Because if it’s not on Instagram
I’m not part of the latest trends!
Not anymore. I can’t live like this,
With Facebook as my world window -
Clicking through in secret envy
Like an embarrassing shadow.
I’m going to reclaim my life
(And ditch my email connections!)
See the world face to face
With just a bag full of possessions.
I’ll live the simple life,
Filled with old-school romance.
Thank you, ordinary rainy day,
For splashing me out of my trance.
